It does not file returns
CEI One does not connect to ANAF, fill in forms or submit returns. It signs and verifies PDF files on iPhone and Mac.

In short: for returns filed on the ANAF portal, ANAF's instructions require a qualified digital certificate, while the free certificate on the eID is for an advanced electronic signature. Here is how to tell what your document needs and where CEI One helps.

Step by step
A tax return, a request in SPV (ANAF's online taxpayer space) or a document someone who deals with ANAF, such as your accountant, asked for? Each has its own rules, and the signature requirement is in the instructions for that form or service.
For filing returns on the portal, ANAF's instructions say they must be signed with a qualified digital certificate. If your form's page says the same, the advanced signature on the eID is not enough.
Qualified certificates come from trust service providers. According to MAI, the eID has room for one, added for a fee by a provider. CEI One does not use qualified certificates: it signs only with the certificate issued by MAI.
Access to SPV does not go through CEI One. For individuals, ANAF's registration form offers several identification options, including checking the ID document number, approval at an ANAF office, video identification and signing in with ROeID.
If the recipient accepts a PDF with an advanced signature, sign it in CEI One: choose the page and position, then authorize with the CAN and the 6-digit signing PIN. Send or upload the signed file where you were asked to.
Good to know
CEI One does not connect to ANAF, fill in forms or submit returns. It signs and verifies PDF files on iPhone and Mac.
The app signs PDFs only. It does not make XML signatures or separate .p7s files.
According to MAI, a document signed with the advanced signature on the eID has the same legal effect as one signed by hand, except for authentic acts. That does not oblige a platform to accept every signature type technically: each portal sets its own requirements.
If you receive an electronically signed PDF, you can check it in CEI One without the card: whether it changed after signing, who signed it, when, and the certificate's status.
