Sign a PDF in three steps, without a printer or scanner

The signature is electronic, made with the certificate on your ID card. It is not a picture of your signature pasted over the text: whoever receives the document can check who signed it and that it has not been changed.

Proof of address

Your address is not printed on your ID card. It is on the chip.

When someone asks for proof of address, CEI One reads it from the card's chip and makes a one-page PDF with your name, photo and address. Save it, send it or sign it.

Find out whether a signed PDF is in order

Open any electronically signed PDF, even one you did not sign, and see in plain words what was checked. You do not need your ID card for this.

The Romanian electronic ID card (CEI) is the card-format one with a chip. The CAN is the 6-digit number printed on it.

On iPhone

  • An iPhone with NFCiOS 26.2 or later.

Frequently asked questions

Is CEI One an official government app?

No. CEI One is an independent app for using the Romanian electronic identity card on iPhone and Mac.

Is the signature only an image placed on the PDF?

No. The app creates an electronic signature using the certificate and private key on your eID. What you see on the page is only the visible part of the signature.

Where do I find the CAN?

The CAN is the 6-digit number printed on the Romanian electronic identity card. You use it to open the secure link between the card and your phone.

What is the difference between the data PIN and the signing PIN?

The 4-digit data PIN gives access to the information on the card. The 6-digit signing PIN authorizes signing.

What does the app check in a signed PDF?

For compatible formats it checks integrity, signed revisions, certificates, trust chains, timestamps and OCSP/CRL revocation information.

Does it work without internet?

Reading the card, proof of address and signing happen locally. The internet is used for timestamps, revocation checks and iCloud, if you turn it on.

What is sent to iCloud?

Only eligible library PDFs (for example signed ones) and their metadata, if you enable sync. A signed PDF is synced in full, including the signing certificate. CAN, PINs, identity reports and proof-of-address documents are not synced.

Can I share documents through AirDrop or Messages?

Yes. PDFs can be saved to Files or shared through the standard share sheet.

What if my iPhone cannot read the card?

Remove a thick case, place the eID under the top area of your iPhone, and keep both still until reading completes.
